Interestingly, James promises that God does not mock or reproach (μὴ ὀνειδίζοντος) us when we request wisdom, so there is no need to feel shame when coming to him. He will not belittle our stupidity. Instead, James insists that “[it] will be given” (δοθήσεται) to the one asking.43 This promise begs the question of what will be given.
